One might argue that New Zealand is so far away from everywhere, especially from Europe, and just about everyone will hop on a plane to get here, so that sustainable travel is impossibe. But  I do not agree with this, I believe that you can still travel sustainably in New Zealand, as sustainability means more than just environmentally friendly. There is also a social, cultural and economic aspect to Sustainable Travel. I believe that it is okay to go on a long haul flight if you stay for an extended period of time, which means that the lenghts of your stay is in relation to the miles travelled to get here. So if you travel all the way from Europe, I think you should stay at least 6 weeks to make up for it and once you are here travel on the comfortable public Intercity coach network instead of renting a car or campervan. Our tours also include the social and cultural aspect as we use only experienced local guides and stay in privately owned B&B accommodation. This brings us also to the economic aspect of our tours where money flows back into the communities by using local produce, cafes and restaurants, privately owned accommodation and local guides. So, yes I think our tours at Respect Nature Tours New Zealand are as sustainalbe as it gets. What do you think? I would be interested to read your opinion.
